Discover Shanghai Tan Pan-Fried Buns 上海滩生煎包

If you're craving authentic Chinese street food with a local twist, Shanghai Tan Pan-Fried Buns 上海滩生煎包 is a must-visit spot in Singapore. Located conveniently at 321 Clementi Ave 3, #01-12, Singapore 129905, this restaurant is the go-to place for anyone eager to experience the delightful, crispy, and juicy flavors of traditional Shanghai-style buns.

Upon entering the restaurant, you'll immediately be welcomed by the warm ambiance and the tempting aroma wafting from the kitchen. The star of the show at Shanghai Tan Pan-Fried Buns is undoubtedly their signature dish, the pan-fried buns. Made from a simple yet perfect combination of dough and filling, these buns are expertly fried to create a crispy golden bottom while maintaining a soft, doughy interior. Each bite is a burst of flavor, with savory pork or other fillings inside, combined with a delicate balance of rich broth that surprises you with each delicious mouthful.

But it’s not just the buns that make this place special. The menu offers a variety of dishes inspired by the flavors of Shanghai, with every item crafted to perfection. From delicate dumplings to hearty noodles, there's something for everyone here. The quality and taste are consistent, which is a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to preserving authentic Chinese flavors while adding their unique flair.

One of the highlights of dining at Shanghai Tan is the attention to detail in their cooking methods. The pan-fried buns are crafted with precision, ensuring that the outer crust is crispy while the filling remains juicy. Each bun is a result of years of perfecting the recipe, combining fresh ingredients and time-honored cooking techniques. The crispy skin gives way to the rich, flavorful broth and tender meat filling inside, making for a truly satisfying meal. It’s a perfect blend of textures, with the crunchiness of the exterior contrasting beautifully with the tender and juicy filling.

The restaurant’s service is always friendly and attentive, making it an ideal spot for both casual meals and special gatherings. Whether you’re coming in for a quick snack or a full meal, the staff ensures that your experience is smooth and enjoyable. The vibe is casual yet inviting, making it a great place to relax and enjoy your meal.

For those unfamiliar with Shanghai-style pan-fried buns, they are a unique dish that blends the simplicity of dumplings with the satisfying crunch of fried food. What sets these buns apart from other dumplings is their deep-fried base, which provides that perfect crispy texture that contrasts beautifully with the soft, fluffy top. The buns are typically filled with minced pork, though some variations might include shrimp or other fillings. The key to their charm lies in the skillful frying technique, which ensures that the base remains crispy without burning, while the interior is filled with rich, savory broth.

The restaurant also offers an array of other traditional Chinese dishes, all prepared with the same level of care and expertise. If you’re looking to try something new, their xiao long bao (soup dumplings) is a great option, filled with savory broth and tender meat, much like the pan-fried buns but in a steamed format. The noodles here are also a hit, offering chewy and flavorful bites that pair wonderfully with the savory sides.

At Shanghai Tan Pan-Fried Buns, you can enjoy a meal that brings the essence of Shanghai street food right to your table. With their attention to detail, commitment to authentic flavors, and inviting atmosphere, it's no wonder this spot has garnered such a loyal following. Whether you're a longtime fan of Chinese cuisine or new to the flavors of Shanghai, you'll undoubtedly find something here to enjoy.

Make sure to drop by and explore the delightful menu that perfectly captures the spirit of Shanghai's culinary culture. Whether you're stopping by for a quick snack or settling in for a full meal, Shanghai Tan Pan-Fried Buns is sure to deliver an unforgettable dining experience.

  • The food are mixed, some very nice like the Signature Popping Juice Pan Fried Buns and Xiao Long Bao. The Fried Onions noodle to me is not so yummy..Other dishes looks great on the menu but I haven’t tried l. I will back to try in future cause this is the Shanghai dishes that I like most.. Atmosphere is quiet and restaurant is spacious with clean tables. Service is typical standard.

  • The restaurant is super easy to find! It’s located right on the side of 321 Clementi, facing Courts (Blk 451). The space is well-lighted and clean, creating a comfortable, no-frills dining atmosphere. It’s not a huge place, but it’s cozy and welcoming.
Signature “Popping Juice” Pan-Fried Bun 爆汁生煎包 (4 pcs) - SGD 6.3 Verdict: AMAZING!
This is the real deal—it tastes exactly like what I had in Shanghai! The bun is perfectly pan-fried, giving it a wonderfully crispy bottom while the top remains soft and fluffy. The pork filling is incredibly tasty and, true to its name, full of juice. Seriously, please take caution when eating! The hot juice is truly “popping out” when you bite into it. This is a must-order!
Signature Wanton with Shepherd’s Purse and Pork Soup 特色荠菜大馄饨(汤) - SGD 8.3 Verdict: Just Okay.
The wanton soup was decent, but I felt the execution wasn’t as perfect as the bun. The wanton skin was a bit too thick for my liking, and they were quite generous with the meat filling, maybe a little too much for a balanced bite.

  • Tasty Shang Hai food, especially recommend their Xiao long bao and Pan fried buns (Sheng Jian Bao)! We also had their braised pork noodle soup, which was very hearty perfect for a cold night. Their pork chop fried rice portion was huge and fried to perfection - tho the fried rice very high msg not my favourite. All in all the meal was satisfying and beyond our expectations. Keep it up!

  • The fried rice and pan-fried dumplings were excellent. recommend their pan fried dumpling! However, the 辣子鸡 didn’t seem up to the usual standard, so I gave feedback to the staff. They responded immediately, which we really appreciated.
